Ok don't laugh at me. What do you guys use your guns for? (legal answers only, LOL) I know hunting rifles...but what do you use handguns for? To keep the criminals at bay. Like the Great White North the USA is a big place. You can be hours from the Sheriff in remote parts and you can't strap a rifle to your hip. Cars are cheap and criminals do travel !

The thing is, we all carry something around to make us feel better, to give us a sense of security, to bring us good luck, or a combination of these things. A handgun is carried by a person who expects no trouble; for there are far better and effective firearms than handguns to deal with trouble when you know it is coming. A handgun is a personal thing. The brand, caliber, barrel length, finish, holster it is carried in and the load carried in it; all very personal choices that fall just short of becoming a religion. A handgun might save one's life if that is in the stars. Hopefully all one will get out of a lifetime of carrying a firearm will be a few twisted belts, an aching hip, and relief.

When I am camping, I do not expect troubles. If I would expect them, then I'd stay awake by the campfire whole night with a long gun. But I do not expect a trouble. This is why I keep a loaded handgun under my pillow when I am camping.

Maybe I should start a compact gun thread. No because there's really not a need. Get a good holster, and get a 1911, or a fullsize glock. Hand guns I have...Browning HP 9mm from 1980, Walther PPK 380 from 1976, and a S&W MP45 full size. I want something smaller than full size. The 380 is heavy. I want to keep the Browning and Walther in good condition because I got them after my grandfather passed away. I shoot them, I just dont want to carry them around. Where can I get a good used compact Glock? What are some other good options for small carry guns?
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I have been carrying a handgun for more years than some of you guys have been alive.
Sparkem, there are tons of used LE Glocks on the market, most priced under $400.00. However, Google Glock's website to peruse all models and to join their shooting sports program, costs about $35.00 a year. Glock will allow you to purchase one handgun at LE prices; $399.99 around here. This offer is for specific models only.
Given that many Glock models had problems, I would opt for a new one over a heavily used one and go with a 9mm instead of the other calibers. I run across used ones quite often but you would need it shipped to a FFL in SC which is going to add to your cost.
Look at S&W #469, 669, 908, 908s, 3913, 3914, 6904, 6906 9mm pistols and the #457 .45 a.c.p., especially if you want one Chelsea can also shoot. Glocks seldom fit everybody. Kahr makes some nice compact pistols but they can be troublesome.
I will buy the next compact or sub-compact Glock I run across at a steal and give you a shout. I usually get very good deals. Not sure if the people there like me or just want me out of their store.

Good to know about the Kahr finally. I have a helluva time trying to find a fit for a .45 anything; wrist to index tip is barely 6". Kahr's subcompact was a fit.
