If you look at your unmounted tire the bead is generally narrower than the sidewall or tread.
When it is mounted on the wheel an explosion of air causes the bead to spread and seal.
If the wheel is too wide it is more difficult to get the tire to seal and is more likely to go flat when bumped on the sidewall.
Specially if your wheel'n and you air down for rock crawl'n.

So basically, a wheel closer to your tread width or a little less is better.
