May I suggest a stronger more sturdy fence for better braking results

wan'a stop on a dime, measure the center of the bumper to the center of the tire, then measure the outter bumper to the middle of the axle, now find a phone pole, measure the center of the phone pole out to the side make the ground and place a dime on the ground. get back about a 100yards and floor it make sure the pole is lined up with the center of bumper, hit the pole dead-on, (well you might be dead on alright) the impact should be enough for the front end to be pushed in far enough so the tire comes to rest right on top of the dime.

how bout it mikeyboy

Hope your brake issue gets fixed man. Here's my story.
It's like -30 below freezing outside on friday and my rear drum brake freezes up solid. Or so I think. So I take the other truck to work. Sunday I take it down to the father-in-laws shop. On the way there (about 13 miles) I am avoiding all traffic stops and/or attempting to hit every light. Cause every time I hit the brakes that rear drum locks up and I'm down the road sidways for a mile till the damn thing breaks loose. I get down to the shop thanking God for the arrival without a rear tire blowout. There happens to be anywhere from two to four inches of ice on all in town roads so that helped also. I take the wheel off and realize that I can't get the rear passenger drum off without a special puller tool. WTF!!! So I decide to take a space heater to the drum brake to see if that helps it break loose. After about five minutes under heat the rear drum breaks loose and I have been driving on it ever since. I don't know what the issue is? Ice/condensation build up in the drum? Loose, damaged or broken shoe? Bearings in axle frozen? I'm stumped. This issue happened last winter everytime it got below -30 degrees outside or if I take it into a garage to warm up then back outside. The weather has been above -20 most of the weekend, so I don't know if It'll happen again. I did bleed that rear drum when I was at the shop. Took off the bleeder valve and nothing came out. I pumped the brake and some fluid squirted out. I think I may have condensation build up or something in that damn drum? I'm taking it down next week after I get paid to have the rear drum pads replaced.
Oh, I lifted the rear end up and checked the axle for LSD? None! Damn it!!! Good luck with your brakes man.

with the rear drums, if they have been on for a while there is most likely a lip at the edge of the drum and the shoes are up inside the lip just enough so that the drums will not slide off without backing off the adjuster star, you can slide hammer all day long.

Well, if our drums are not self-adjusting, then they shouldn't be too hard to take off even with a lip on them. but usually I find that hammering on the face of the drum as hard as I can without hitting the studs helps to break things loose. Under extreme cold conditions you can get ice buildup. I hear it's best to park in gear rather than w/ e-brake in lower temps. May want to look into the operational range of grease and brake fluid. wonder when that stuff freezes.

absolutely true !, theres a slot with a rubber insert under axle. have to adjust brakes down to clear that lip. i pounded, pulled, heated ,cussed, then figured it out...ITS THE LIP! steering wheel puller popped it right off after that.

What's engine timing like in -30, half a day before top dead center?

Would be if i lived there.

No timing light, use sundial.

Thanks for the heads up on that F---ing drum. I never had rear drums on any vehicles that I owned. At least I never had to service them. I wanted to beat the Sh!+ out of that drum, but I refraned from causing any more damage. Wish I knew of the adjuster and the screw removal method before hand. Now that I know, I'll prepare for my second attempt.

Jaboo - Sun dial? There has to be sun to use one of those things man! The whole top of the world is tilting away from the sun during this time of the year! Global warming would be nice about now. It's -18 degrees Below zero right now. I just had my timing chain, belt and water pump replaced last summer. So I can only assume that your dead on accurate with the timing estimate.

I don't intend on stealing the thread from Hydra, thanks for the advice though. Good luck on those brakes man.
