ok... car is my 90 4runner.
doesnt get driven that much anymore.
battery is a new 6 month old red top optima.
lately, i charge the battery on a 12 amp charger to get it ready to run.
but recent issue is that after a drive with stereo system going, like last nite, i cant even start the thing after getting gas.
only a jump start would get me going.
1. i know the recent reputation of optimas arent like they used to.
2. no wacky lights from dash saying bad charging. all lights do normal startup flashing.
3. using a simple cheapie device connected to cig lighter says charging is 13.5v and above during driving.
what am i missing?

You specifically mentioned the stereo. New? Did you try the same scenario of driving without the stereo on? Is the stereo a 500 Kilowatt

What is the voltage at the battery terminals while running? Both with & without the stereo?
Bad connections can cause this problem, so check where it matters.

Leo, Take a multi meter and check the battery cold. It should be over 12.0v If it is lower, the battery is an issue. As mentioned, check all connections. After that, run the rig a bit and see what the actual battery voltage is. Running, it should be at least 13.7. Right after shutting it down it should read about the same. You can have a shop do an amp draw/load test on it also. That will tell ya what shape it in. Danny
