Have you recently changed your oil filter??

Common cause of noise is installing a filter without a flowback valve, starving the engine of oil for the first few seconds until the filter fills up. Could also be worn valve and simply needs a new filter.

We have HLA's (hydraulic lash adjusters) that should automatically adjust valve clearances, and these may get dirt in them or gum up, lengthening the time they take to fill. It requires a stripdown (to removal of cams) to access the HLA's.

Do the easy/cheap stuff first, then try the HLA's.

I think that he was trying to say, Go the.... "most frugel route possible" Or maybe, Go the..."way that you deem appropriate" Or perhaps, Go the..."easiest course first" Or, Go the..."rest on your own man" Or potentially, Go the..."way that you wanna go!"
