So i found a running motor on (craigslist ) i gave the dude a ring and he told me that it has about 180k miles on it. but it's for $250 i forgot to ask if it fuel injected or carber.(dont ask me how lol) just wanted to know if it was worth it. if it is fuel injected what is entaled in swapping that? the motor is still in the truck so i guess i could grab the ecu and other stuff that is needed. btw it's coming from a mighty max 5 speed and maybe going into my raider 5 speed. -Justus

The only Mitsubishi 2.6 in the US with fuel injection was in the Starions and Conquest sports cars.
Make sure its not from a front wheel drive and the bell housing width is right. Some early 2.6 with the auto had a narrow block. 86 should have been the last year for it.

thanks for the info, the motor is from a mighty max with a manual trans so it should fit correct.

Well not knowing your current situation its hard to form an accurate opinion. What is wrong with your current 2.6? How many miles are on it?
If see you are in the Independent Republic of California, better question is will it pass smog having 180k on it? If your 2.6 has similar mileage than it may be worth the risk. It all depends on the state of your current engine compared to the 180k unit you are looking at getting.

my current engine is seized and the second piston is fried tried rolling it back turning the crank with a cheater bar and all that good stuff after i poured lube in it and every thing. took the head off and took a peek around and had a friend look at it and came with the same conclusion. uhhh... my car 99,000 miles on it :u so i know im putting a high mileage motor in a semi low mileage raider but i need the car to be able to drive. it's a dumb idea but it's the cheapest right now, and that is the time frame i have, right now lol.

Well $250 isn't bad when you need an engine to get your truck running. Is it a complete 2.6? Or just the long block? If it is complete you could say all the extra parts that will be left over (alternator, pump(s), head etc) it will be worth it. I don't know your budget but $250 is better than $1,500 or what ever a new one would cost. Its a calculated risk, but if you need to get the truck running you have to do what you have to do.
What I would no matter what happens is keep the old engine and rebuild it. That 99k engine is probably well worth the cost of rebuilding. Especially if the 180k unit goes south in the future.

If your old motor is seized that badly odds are there are a few parts that cant be fixed, like the crank.
If it runs its worth $250 as a core just to get a crank and a good set of rods that have not been trashed.
You can always go through it later.
