Oleg,

Thanks so much for putting that map together. Can you also send me the gps waypoints so I can also plot them into my gps?

Man I'm really getting excited about the trip now!!

I got a copy of the Nat. Park Svc Map from russell who loaned it to me (thanks bud!!).

I used it to make this...

I want to plot the trails onto this map so your gps coordinates will help a bunch since I was having a hard time lining up your map with mine.

I did the RaceTrack, Lippincott, Saline Valley, Steel Pass, Eureka dunes run Last October.

1. The 27 miles from Ubehebe Crater to The Racetrack, pure brutal Washboard. Lippincott, just google it. Don't take anything that's full size down that road without expecting damage. Anything Mid size, Gen II Montero with 31's will do fine. Locker is nice but not required for going down hill. Just pray you don't encounter anyone coming the other way. If you gang up a bunch of trucks on that trail and encounter someone the other way you will effectively grid lock the trail. There are maybe three passing spots on the whole run.

Saline Valley, some washboard nowhere near as bad as RaceTrack road. Turns into a nice sandy trail. Not much to see until you get to warm springs then I suggest sunshades. You don't want to burn your retina's like what happened to me

Warm Springs to Steel Pass, easy driving in river bed for a few miles. A few tight spots as you get closer in, off camber , pothole type stuff.

Deckdera Canyon right before you drop into the Eureka Dunes. Three marble steps you have to drop down. I didn't have any trouble going slow. Mostly worried about dragging my rear. This was going down, going up you would need a locker.

If your camping at Eureka dunes....THE HILLS HAVE EYES ! Luck for you the eyes are Kangaroo Rats. They come out right at twilight and will raid your camp. Hop in your tent, hop in your truck. You pretty much have to do a full on Bull charge to get them to retreat.

We spent a lot of time at the Race Track then backtracked to Tea Kettle Juction hung a right and camped on top of White Mt. It's great up there, pygmy pines but cold !

Les, we did the Dedeckera canyon route the other way, from north to south, and we went through the marble steps up. Most our vehicles did not have the lockers and they were fine - may be a few extra approaches, but fine.

The Dedeckera canyon:

Ray, PM me your email. I can send you my traceroute, if you are using MapSource. If you are not, then I have to put the waypoints.

Ray, the NP map is not perfect and not complete. For example, the Dedeckera canyon trail is completely missing on most maps including NP maps. If not for Roger Mitchell book, I'd never know about this route from Eureka dunes to Warm Springs.
