Ok will a v-6 have enough power to turn 35's. I want to be able to drive it on the freeway at speed. The v-8 looks to be a tight fit. I work at a fab shop so all the work Would be done by me and my boss. So the cost would be the misc parts. This is where I work Qualafab.com.

Ok, thanks for the details. If you're comfortable with it, a turbo 2.6 out of a starquest is a common upgrade for the stock 2.6.

Another common upgrade is the 4.3v6 Chevy motor found in late model blazers (the small ones).

Another possible upgrade although probably costlier would be a 3.5sohc or dohc engine from a later model Montero (94 and up)

I'm sure you could even throw a twin turbo v6 out of a 3000gt in there or supercharge a v6 like what frank is doing.

There may be other setups Ive forgotten.

Each has their pro's and cons. Many of those that have done them will tell you how their setup is better/easier than the others setup.

I still say it's up to you to figure out which one is really right for you. If it were me, I'd pick the most reliable and simplest one to setup and maintain that has the right HP (the stock 3.0L has enough power to turn 35's w/ the stock gearing albeit it may feel a little underpowered at highway speeds) not necessarily the one with the most HP. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
