Ok, so a week after buying my 95SR, the crank pulley broke and the dealer replaced it, the front seal, timing belt cover and a bunch of other stuff and all should have been well. Well it wasn't. It appears they did not torque the bolt down properly and it started backing out on me. I caught it because I heard a weird noise leaving my neighborhood, but not before the stupid locator pin sheared off apparently. I have been searching here for hours trying to find the part number for it. I am sure I have seen it before, but the parts stores are all closed, I had plans that required the truck in the morning, and the more red I see over this whole thing, the harder it is for me to understand what it is I am searching now. The parts stores (including the dealer) could find it for me... please someone help

the crank pulley key sheered? They are supposed to do that from my understanding to prevent any real damage to the crank. I know Advance sells them in the HELP isle in a multi-pack.

It is a roll pin you can get one at the hardware store. Have you gotten all of it out of the crank? Do you have what you need to torque it down properly?

That would be it. I must admit to not knowing it by that term so perhaps I will get further tomorrow calling around using that name. As for the place you mention, I assume that is a store, but not one we have around here. But those you find on the "help aisle", is it a universal type thing then? It felt to me like there might be a "right one" and I would hate to put something in there that was too soft and leaves me back here again in a few weeks, but I would hate even more to put in one that was too hard and have something worse happen.....

3.0 has pulley key. aka Woodruff key.

3.5 has a different set up. an alignment pin. aka roll pin.

Or am I wrong?

Yes I got both pieces out. In fact they both fell out when I took the pulley back off. I saw that it was a roll pin but that's what made me wonder if there is a "right" thickness or something like that. I will go to ace in the morning as soon as they open if you think that is a good idea.

As for torquing it down myself, I have a torque wrench that can handle 184NM (135ft-lbs right?), at least that is what I believe I read. Someone correct me if I am wrong. As for holding the pulley while I do, I have some 1/4 bar steel and some bolts that fit in it holes so I thought I could make the yolk type tool pretty easily. Again, if this is a mistake someone please set me straight, but I need this running again ASAP.

Oh, is the hole in the pulley supposed to be completely round? On mine, it looks a little oval though it also does not look like it is irregular or gouged in any way, but it does not look truly round either.

There is a woodruff key for the crank t-belt gear, and a pin for the crank pulley. At least, that's how the 3.0 24V and 3.5 SOHC engines are.

As for holding your pulley, do like you say. Make an adjustable Y out of the bar stock and fit the ends with some bolts for pins. You'll want the bolts to be as big as possible so they hold better.

That's messed up that the dealer install came loose. I'd be headed back there with 1/2" breaker bar in hand.

Well it wasn't a Mitsu dealer, so I suppose they might not have known the latest service bulletins... but it is still annoying to say the least. I would have headed back there if it weren't for the fact that they are 30 miles away and I am not about to pay for towing out there. I need it running as soon as possible too and I know they wouldn't get it done very fast. I might as well get it done right and forget about the frustration hopefully sooner rather than later.

old bolts are these - oldest on the left and first revision on the right

[Linked Image]

The new 3500 bolt is LEFT - LL1100A141
The New 3000 bolt is RIGHT - 1101A022

[Linked Image]

this is based on info given by wincaps and mitsubishiparts.net

Wincaps give this part number for the Gen2 3500 longwagon

- 030313 - MD172725

it looks like the OLD bolt on the right in the top picture

[Linked Image]

when I enter the part number MD172725 into mitsubishiparts.net it gives this revised part number which is the bolt on the left in the picture above as mentioned part number - LL1100A141

[Linked Image]

Hope this helps

Thank you 4ePikanini, but the bolt wasn't questioned as it was replaced a month ago with the new one. Unfortunately the dealer's mechanic did not torque the new bolt down properly, so it started backing out yesterday and snapped the pin, reference number 03789 in the diagram you provided there. Nobody (dealer, Napa, Autozone, Checker) could seem to find the pin based on that number nor my description. Motero says any rolled pin that will fit should be fine, so I am going to go through the hardware aisles of Ace and Home Depot in just a little bit and hopefully that works out.

If anyone knows if there is anything special about this pin and why I should search harder for the "right" one, please let me know right away.
