There is a woodruff key for the crank t-belt gear, and a pin for the crank pulley. At least, that's how the 3.0 24V and 3.5 SOHC engines are.

As for holding your pulley, do like you say. Make an adjustable Y out of the bar stock and fit the ends with some bolts for pins. You'll want the bolts to be as big as possible so they hold better.

That's messed up that the dealer install came loose. I'd be headed back there with 1/2" breaker bar in hand. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/mrt.gif" alt="" />
