Hell yeah man!! Glad to hear it. Maybe you could do a writeup on the product you used, dis-assembly procedure, so forth.... Lots of folks have this problem, and a final solution would be VERY welcome in this community!

Thank you all. I haven't reassembled anything yet because I wanted the thread locker on the insert to set up completely, so I decided to go have dinner with the family and do some work for clients. I have to write a contract in the morning, then I will do final assembly so that everything will have set for 24 hours.

As for the writeup, I intend to do it. I noticed a couple new people with a couple new threads in the day or two after I started this thread. I think people even outside the community find it because the Mitsu section here comes up pretty high on google. I have been taking photos all along the way, keeping notes, and I will do a writeup. I also got 4 spare inserts with the kit and the tools are all still dangerously sharp so I plan to offer it up in the appropriate section. Basically I paid $115 plus shipping, so if someone else can use it (only someone with an M14 bolt, 1.5 thread pitch, 28mm thread depth can), I think it would be fair to get some of my money back and help them get it cheaper too. If they, like me, only need it for the crank bolt, they would have 3 inserts left and could sell it forward accordingly. Maybe 5 of us could all fix our stripped cranks for around $25 a piece in the end. As soon as I know it will hold, I will post up both threads.. if that's OK.

Dang, David...Anyway, I may be up your way on Monday. I'll PM you.

And I think just for kicks, I'll check my crank bolt first, then throw my tools in the back. Just in case...

I personally on both my Gen1 V6 never had a bolt come loose... don't know if it's just good luck, or because I work on my stuff enough and have a system of tightening my bolts. I use Brendan's method of sacrificing a serpentine belt and feeding the belt around a pulley then looping it into itself. I forget the torque specs but I think I just goto 130ftlbs. I put about 15k on my Montero with the original style bolt before my head gasket went.

Well I haven't had a whole lot of time today, but I wanted to state that IT'S ALIVE! I put everything back on this morning and did some test runs with great success. Balancer is back on and it felt REALLY good torquing down. Took 135lb-ft without so much as a hiccup, new spark plugs are in, much was cleaned up at least some while I was under there, and I discovered a couple other things that could have really annoyed me if left unchecked. Tomorrow I have a couple minor things; I need to adjust the idle and/or throttle cable a bit (discovered one of the adjustment bolts was cracked and allowing a little slippage), need to do a little more cleaning up, and finally the Seafoam I intended to do. I should have time tomorrow though to work on putting together my writeup. I took photos along the way, though my apologies as the further along I got, the less I remembered to pick up the camera. If anyone has a stripped crank right now and needs information (or the kit) immediately, please feel free to pm me or call me at (623) 565-8432.

Thank you all again for the support, ideas, or just letting me rant. Hopefully now I can get on to the better business of meeting some of you on the trail and start some (hopefully) interesting work on a few ideas I have kicking around inside my head. Oh, and ordering tires ASAP...
