Need a Spot
I recently bought a 2002 Wrangler X. It has 31" tires but no lift. It like to wander back and forth on the road. Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

I'd be looking at the tire wear. For sure it would be tire alignment. If you do get it realigned.... Take it to the JEEP dealer! It don't cost any more but they always do a perfect job. MOPAR dealers don't want any complaints.. Tire companys don't care wheather the alignment wears tires are not..

You might check tire pressure to see if they are all the same....

Alignment is the next thing to check.

YEp... And tell the guy it is wandering.. Have him look at the rear bushings and U-bolts and spring hangers..
The back end can cause some problems as well as the front.

Sometimes wider than stock or different offset wheels can cause or accentuate wandering, and some brands of tire are more prone to follow grooves or uneveness in the street than others.

If you aren't running stock wheels and/or tires, see if you can borrow some and try them to see if anything changes.

Husky, What you need is a NEW steering box, when they wear out it is murder to keep straight.Spend the money and change it out yourself you will not believe the difference,I have done this on two higher mileage vehicles and problem solved.

TJ Jim not a leaf sprung YJ or CJ. Dude?

Steering box STOP, zero chance. The internet and forums can empty your wallet long before you ever find the real culprit.

Dealers are good, but not the end all be all of diagnosis.
You will spend a fortune and not get much.

a 4x4 shop specializing in jeeps is best, they have an interest in seeing you back for more mods and service.
They will do "basic shake down of the front end and a toe check" inside of a few minutes. 98% of the time this will find a problem or two that will most likely solve the problem.
