Getting the Wheeling Fever
God, I don't even know where to begin... Last week my family and I were heading to Arizona to meet with friends and even more family to celebrate my son's 1st B-Day. We were heading over Hwy 58 (near Tehachapi, CA) when a drunk driver in a F-350 crossed the center divide and hit us head on.

We shouldn't be alive, but some how my wife and son were fine. I needed to be extracted by the fire department, and have a fractured pelvis and crushed knee...but I am ALIVE!!!! I will be calling the hospital home for another month, and should be walking in 4-6 months.

Life's short and you can never tell what tomorrow will bring...Take every opportunity you have to tell all of those that you love what they mean to you.

Holy Beejeebes!!!!!! Glad to see you, and your family made it out fairly OK!!! Looks like your Montero served you well!

I hope the SOB that did this gets punished correctly.

Again, I can't say how awesome it is that you're ok.

Wow... I mean... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just glad you and your family are OK Matt. Get better soon man!!

Any word on what happened to the drunk driver? I hope he was ejected from his vehicle and hit a tree and is alive but in worse condition than you and your family?

Well we'll be up there in a couple of weeks. PM me your hospital and I'll swing buy and visit with you for a bit. You want me to bring you anything?

After hitting us, it looks like he rolled it a few times, but was able to walk away from the accident. Something to be said about being 22 years old i guess. I heard he was charged with felony drunk driving.

Ray, Thanks a ton for your offer, but I think I am doing good. The big one was getting transferred from the county hospital in Bakersfield to UC Davis Medical Center here in Sacramento. Have a great time on your run, there should be some epic snow up in the mountains.

Here is a picture of his truck:

How about the Season 14 Top Gear episodes or did you already download those?

I guess their is something to say for a fully boxed frame and a well made vehicle. I mean aside from the main impact, I don't really see much disturbance of the passenger area. I really couldn't see many other SUVs taking such a hit and everyone being able to tell the tale.

You have a story you can tell your son about his birthday when he gets older.

I'm so glad that your family is safe. That though is always in my mind when I'm driving around my two babies.

I will say that I've seen a BUNCH of Mitsus help save lives. They really built tanks.

Get well soon and sue the crap out of the drunk. I don't take kindly to those type.

You sir, were VERY lucky that thing didn't hit you a little closer toward the center.. looks his frame rail just barely missed you and is what saved most of the impact going through your truck.

They better be buying you the nicest Gen 2.5 in the US after that incident.
