Any try this new technology on our old platforms yet?

Discovered their existence through a recent small write-up in Motor Trend... said they were available through most NAPA's - made me think of ya Larry! (hazy_daze)

This site has a thread discussion with a link to the mfg. site.

I have a new set of Valeo e-codes from Daniel Stern Lighting (discussed here on some old old threads) to upgrade yet on my 89 LS "one day". But I'm thinking with the tendency to draw less amps, LED's may not require the wiring upgrade necessary for the E-codes on our old Monty's (Gen1's anyway).

Share your thoughts and opinions...

Jim

I've had a set on backorder for 6 months, Jim. Looking forward to checking them out. They're pricey though. Bout $500 for the pair... My rep for that line owes me a favor though. If I get them and don't like them, I'll let ya have em.

I've never seen LED headlights. I've seen lots of HID on BMW and other higher end cars. Do you have a link?

I used Sylvania silver stars in my Gen 1. Vast improvement over the old yellow bulbs.

hard to notice I suppose - it's there in my 1st post. Click the word SITE. It'll take you to a discussion thread on these LED bulbs. Within that thread is another link to the mfg site.

I'm interested in hearing first hand how they work on our old rigs (without too much modification I expect!). If they work well enough, then perhaps hazy can get us a group discount if there are enough takers.

At first I thought it was (ouch!) $250/pair.... but now $500 a pair ?!?!? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

For that you can do real HID!

Jim

Yeah, they're sky high right now because of them being a brand new product. I would expect the price to drastically drop in the next year or so.

Trucklight.com makes a set of 7" round LED headlights. Didn't check out the price though.
Saw it in my Overlander magazine.

Ray, Trucklight is the manufacturer of the lights in question. I've seen one of the demo lights and hooked it up to a battery to test it. But, nota pair in a vehicle yet. It has 10 LEDs in the housing. The lower 5 come on for dims and then the upper 5 join the lowers for brights. It replaces the sealed beam just like the fleabay and Hella housings with the replaceable H4 bulb. They're pretty neat, but at that price I'd wait till the price comes down considerably. If the ones I'm getting weren't comped, there's no way I'd shuck for them.

It'll probably be a year or so before the price comes down. But when it does start dropping, it falls like a rock. A couple years back, when NAPA was first starting to get into the LED truck and trailer lighting biz, the LED replacements were quite expensive. I've seen several price drops since then and they've become much more reasonably priced. The clear/white versions are still exponentially more expensive than their other-colored counterparts. I've tried to research the reason why. Best I can come up with is that the colored LEDs are cheaper to manufacture as opposed to the clear. Mainly because with the clear they have to filter all other colors of the spectrum to get to clear. Anybody who knows the reason for sure and can cite references, I'd be much obliged to learn something.

Ive been scouring around for em. 130 is bout the going price for a set of em. I plan on ordering a set eventually. The way Scottie did it looked like WAY to much work. The vendors on pirate all offer atleast a 10% discount if you search thru there threads FYI
