I was wrong, the pressure builds up in the cooling system even when the heater core is by-passed, I can't even drive 7 miles without it happening. I'm afraid you guys might be right about the head gasket. But what I don't understand is that the truck runs perfect. The headgasket was replaced only about 5000mi ago. Can they fail that fast?

I have had them fail soon after replacement. One time was due to the shop (a Toyota dealer in fact) not properly tightening the head bolts and using a rebuilt head that was slightly warped. I had that head replaced with a new factory head along with some ARP head studs and that head and gasket has been running fine for 10+ years now.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I called the toyota dealership and they said for anywhere between $45 and $90 they could diagnose the problem for sure. They said about $650 to replace the head gasket. Is that too much? Is a Toyota dealership the wrong way to go for this repair? This truck is starting to become more trouble than its worth, a real money pit. I want it to be done right so I don't have to worry about it again.

Do you think the Toyota dealership is the way to go? Will they do it properly with new head bolts etc? I'm really stressed out. I've owned the truck for 9 years, bought it for $2650 with and since have put $3500 into it. I'm wondering if I should fix it, or just put it on craigslist as a mechanic's special/part truck? Idk?

There is a local Mobil Mechanic in my area I use.
$65.00/hr.
He had 25 years in his own shop and was zoned out of work.

Jeff does great work and stands behind what he does.
There is certainly someone like Jeff in your area.

Give him a call and talk to him about Toyotas and price.

Some time cash prices are less with no receipt but the warrenty is still good.
