Can someone please help? I have a 87 trooper with a 2.3 5speed but the 2.3 is tired 235k miles and I have a chance to get a 2.6 from a 93 real cheep and I just need to know if it will bolt up to my trans?

The transmission will bolt up; but its more involved than that since the 2.3 is carb and the 2.6 is EFI. You'll need the computer and its associated wiring harness, at the least. Also the fuel pump is in-tank for the 2.6. Those are the two things that come to mind for the time being.

Search for posts by jlemond. I think you can put the 2.3 intake/carb on the 2.6 and then you don't have to deal with the wiring.

It can be done. You'll end up with a combination of the two engines, but IIRC, it is not that difficult to do.

I'm considering this myself. According to Jerry (JLEMOND), the 2.6L will require the 2.3L intake, carb, and distributor. I believe he mentioned the coil as well due to slight differences between the two. In addition, a low pressure electric fuel pump to replace the high pressure in-tank unit. If I go this route (already purchased the intake, distributor and coil, weber 32-36 carb), I'll be using the little weber in place of the stock carb. I have an 86 service manual on the way so I can compare wiring circuits for the replacement. I'm just wanting to be rid of as many sensors, dang computer, vacuum lines, etc as possible. I use my 89 for checking cows, etc and not for recreational purposes, therefore, I don't foresee problems with fuel starvation/flooding. Basically, the only thing remaining is finding that set of cojones to do it. Pretty crazy. The trooper runs fantastically though it definitely runs way too rich.
