Others, who have 99+ models, say that it is not necessary on their late model third gens because of a different fuel mapping program. They recommend a tranny cooler, but thats it. Question is, how do you know unless you've been running a S/C for 2+ years on a 99+ Someone help us out here.
Are all of the fuel and tranny mods necessary??????
Matt

Before I bought the SC'r for my 2K ~20k miles ago, I called and asked about their test procedure.
I was told that it was with a stock intake and exhaust. Based on that I bought the SC'r and the Tranny cooler. I have no other mods, I don't need any.
Until the computer adjusted I had some detonation problems. I think ~ 3-4 times. After the computer adjusted there was occasional ping under low fuel pressure conditions. Maybe a half dozen times in the 20K miles.
A couple of monthes ago I pulled a Uhaul and had, according to my wife , some very minor, light pinging until the computer adjusted to the load. I didn't hear it. In fact after the computer adjusted we hit the Blue Ridge mountains and there was no pinging, and the Runner did most of the mountains in OD.
I recently changed my plugs to the NGK Iridiums, 2 steps colder, and have tried to make it ping and, according to my wife, there is none, nada...and she can tell if a humming bird is lactose intolerant from a block away...
My driving style didn't change appreciatably after the SC'r. I was looking for more power, not for street racing.
I have no trans problems to date and don't expect any. Of course if I should choose to race everyone from every stop light I might create a problem.
I bought my SC'r, hopeing that by maintaining the stock intake and exhaust, I would not have any problems. I think that I have accomplished that, and am not sorry that I paid too much for mine.
So, pay your money, close up your deck-plate, be prepared to go back to a stock exhaust and hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. That's what we did, except we did th SC'r and never tried for the extra few horses...

Placed an order for mine today (actually yesterday bc it is almost 2AM) from Jesse at Sterling. I live in TX yet he honored the $1,700 total + $16.95 for shipping. I may be posting for some help later as I plan to do the install myself. He said he had 11 left, FYI.
