I asked Kia about this button.
They said it was initially for a flux capacitor, but that the Sportage was not able to handle the surge, so it just changes the shift points.

I thought they didn't put the flux capacitor in because the Sporty can't hit 88 mph.

The manual says it raises the transmission shift points so you get higher rpm before shift. I still don't know if it works in lo, i usually shift manually anyway. I imagine sticks don't have this button.

All crazyness and jokes aside, do you have an owners manual? I might be able to send you a copy. What i said was prety much word for word from the manual. I mean, it doesn't say anything about a flux capacitor?

That's my assumption as well, more RPM's while wheel'n and pull'n cuz we have very little Torque/HP to begin with.

Auto Sporty's are a bit more gutless than the sticks.

I know this cuz I drove both before purchase.
