Most S/C owners swear that you have to do all the fuel and tranny mods or the thing will ping like crazy and fry your transmission. Others, who have 99+ models, say that it is not necessary on their late model third gens because of a different fuel mapping program. They recommend a tranny cooler, but thats it. Question is, how do you know unless you've been running a S/C for 2+ years on a 99+ Someone help us out here.

Are all of the fuel and tranny mods necessary??????

Matt

Now i just need to decide if I have $2k to throw at this, lol <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Regarding your second question, I have about 107k on the 3RZ. No problems, runs great, but I know this is a high mileage figure for motor I am thinking about supercharging. On the other hand...no, there is no other hand; it's still a lot of miles. Gonna have to think this over carefully. I know exactly what forced induction can do to a motor, especially if the fuel curve isn't up to snuff. But I am also pretty sure the TRD 3RZ kit, which uses a smallish S/C and fairly low boost, doesn't require the same sort of fuel mods as the 5VZE kit. Besides, I've already built my "ultimate" street forced induction motor for my 22RTE truck, so I can definitely stomach doing something less radical. I'm not looking for a 12 or 13 second 4Runner, but a 15 second 4Runner would probably put a nice smile on my face.

Like I said, $2k is a fair price, so I'm gonna have to think this over...

I'll bet they're discounting them because the 3.4L is about to go out of production.

Hi, I posted this on another thread, but figured it was pretty relevant to this one too. i have a 96 SR5 4wd, automatic transmission, with about 85K on it. I'm thinking about this supercharger...

Can people tell me about your experiences with the supercharger, and no other fuel/tranny mods? I'd like to get one, but I don't want to have to do a whole bunch of other mods too... the s/c will already break the bank =( are the other mods going to be necessary?

thanks!
