Or, check out the various style of antenna mounts available from www.hro.com

when i click this link...i get a Lawyer's Website.

Can you attach your antenna to your rear or front bumper?

does it need to be on the roof for height or does it matter?

is a whip antenna better or does it not matter?

They are having a flea market type sale today ( 13th ) at the Ham Radio Outlet.

Mounting location is best where the most of the antenna is above the highest point on the vehicle.

Choice of location depends on vehicle. Roof mount is best if you have a metal roof. Using a piece of sheet metal on a fiberglass roof does provide a functional ground plane.

Tire racks provide a good mounting location as it does place the antenna high and the metal provides a good ground plane.

Windshield is another good location.

Bumpers are not optimum for a 2-meter antenna as that places the majority of the antenna low and the metal of the vehicle does act a shield for the radio waves.

For a vehicle (mobile installation), a whip style antenna is best. It is easy to mount and will withstand wind and contact with brush and tree limbs.

Other antenna styles are superior in performance but not as durable in mobile installations.

Check http://www.elkantennas.com/2m4405element.htm

That is a very good portable antenna that can be used for mobile installations. A friend does use one on his trail excursions.

However, it is susceptible to damage from brush and tree limbs.

What's in the little brown box? Is that the mounting bracket for the radio? And does that radio come with everything for the detachable face plate or is that bracket sold separately?

That should be the detachable faceplate mounting kit which is two cables and a faceplate cover for the radio.

these are someone else photos.
They used a Flexible Mount for their Faceplate.
I may do this or not depending on Space.

The Radio came with the Remote Mounting Kit and did not cost anything extra. Yesterday they were paying eveyones sales tax. so i saved $50 dollars.

I was going to buy online but the prices were the same and i did not have to pay for shipping. It is nice to support a local business also.
