Other than that, find a local repeater and join in the conversation. Typically, many of the repeaters have traffic that coincides with rush hour traffic.

When you go out as a group and decide to select a ham frequency for use, keep in mind the local band plan and stay away from local repeater frequencies.

In general, 147.480 is a good choice for simplex operation. That freq is set aside in southern Cal for simplex operation.
