do you have a link to the tpi unit that goes with the cam? I found a thread with you mentioning rpw.com.au but cannot find the tpi.

as for the turbo, I think i would love it, but i have not found any complete cars locally.

I got mine off of the Starion board from a guy in AU. My cam is a stock cam from the same australian Magna 2.6 engine.

I had the Taurus 3.8 fan assembly on my 3.0L Gen I, controlled by a DCC (Delta Current Control) FK35 (now FK50p) unit. It is an amazing setup. No need to upgrade anything, alternator, battery, wiring, etc. This unit runs the fan only when need (mostly at low speed) and it will even run after you shut down the engine to continue cooling.

It's a little pricey, but well worth the money.

I am in the process of moving this setup to my 1998 after I find a suitable fan. The Taurus fan is to thick to fit.

That DCC thing looks pretty cool and although more expensive than a typical fan relay kit, its not bad. I had wondered about how people were installing two speed fans anyway.

Edit:
I went over the install instructions and saw an input for the A/C. I was wondering if that is the only purpose of that small fan in front of the radiator on a 4cyl Gen1. Seems if you remove that, the load might not be all that much more (at least on low speed) than what it pulls with that little fan.

The problem with Zark's setup is he has an 87 with a 50 amp alternator just keeps up with the stock load. The Ford fans draws about 33 amps. Idling with the lights on would run the battery down.

Yeah, 50amp sucks:) the variable speed control and AC control seem like the way to go regardless. I read an article about a similar setup the Painless Wiring supplies. I need to find the link and read up on it. The alt guy i'm working with gave me some rough numbers for amp consumption.
17amps for the flex a lite fan (per their specs)
12 amps for ignition
12 amps for lights
12 amps running heater fan on high

That puts me at 53 amps under full load
the numbers may or may not be accurate, but either way, the stock jobby is just getting by.

I think Clay has an electric fan on his Gen1. I thought about electric fans but meh, I never had an issue with the mechanical one and with a fresh dizzy seal makes water splashing around a non issue.

Yep, a 3000 CFM single fan mounted to a sheetmetal fabbed shroud, bolted to the factory holes on the radiator. Total cost was under $100 (compare that to the cost to replace the O.E. fan clutch), including the switch and relay.

3000 CFM isn't anywhere near enough if you don't keep the radiator full

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've installed a Flex-a-lite Black Magic Extreme II for a mustang 3300 cfm single fan approx 40 amps on - keeps me at about 1/2 in the temp meter always. It is a perfect fit to the 90 radiator. I swapped over to a VSC variable controller as the sensor for it is in the radiator hose and measure the temp directly works great.

my alt guy just called back and he said that the most he can safely get in there is 75-80amp for $100. all plug and play, so i'm going with that. I should have it done by eow.
