Has anyone ever tried to cut back the frame attachments for a front bumper (and reattach) to bring it closer to the front of a Gen 1? Would significantly increase the front entry angle.

I modified the frame rails for aftermarket bumpers. On my gen 1, I only modified the rear frame rails and had a custom bumper built (1/4" & 3/8" steel plate ). The design was much narrower than the OE bumper and was no longer the typical 'step' bumper. Because of the new design I was able to cut quite a bit off the rear frame rails. Grasscat has that bumper currently.

For my gen 2, I both shortened & modified the frame rails in front and back to allow me to mount any Jeep TJ bumper.
