Need a Spot

Rear end in my 04 tj x went, previous owner was running a 32 on one side and a 31 on other, on the pavement even. Acquired and tossed a 3.07 d35 from and 05 tj into it.. Shock mounts on new axle definitely different! Seem a few inches closer to spring perch. My shock bushings are defintely worn (procomp 3000's... 2" spring lift). Same shocks are offered for 97-06 tj's. Are the upper shock mounts in same spot on 04 and 05 is my main ?.
I LIVE offroad, so on my daily drive to civilization I encounter LOTS of bumps.. ..feels a lot more violent (rear end feels like a catapult!) than I rem w/ bad shock bushings on old axle.
Can't believe worn (really worn, worn thru) bushings would have such and effect. Ideas? Thanks!

The leverage the shock has on the axle has probably changed. I bet the body mounts are the same, I don't know for sure. I'd order new shocks for the later model axle and ask for aggressive rebound dampening and softer compression dampening to smooth out the ride. If the mounts are radically different you can get a universal bushing and probably make your own upper adapter.

A long arm suspension will suck up those bumps, it'll also improve the angle the shock travels

From the factory, the shock mounts are the same. What you may be seeing is that the old axle housing had shock mount extensions that came in the lift kit, or the previous owner bent the lower shock mounts up a bit for more clearance for the fatter Procomp aftermarket shocks.
