Check with a guy named Ditchdoc on Planetisuzoo.com. He has an '86 gasoline (4zd1, 2.3 carbureted) Trooper that he put an Isuzu 12-bolt rear axle in.

I dont think any Troopers came with locking rear differential. Some came with Limited Slip Differentials (LSD) but I believe only on 2nd Gens (1992 and later). The data code for LSD is G80. You will find that on the VIN and the data plate inside the engine bay.

For 4.10:1 axles, look for a data code of GT5. GT4 is 3.73, found in some 90's model Rodeos. IIRC, all Troopers came with 4.56 as in the first Gens, though '89 RS models had 4.77:1, and many/most 1992+ have 4.30:1 gear ratios.

Axle width (wheel mounting surface=WMS) increased in model years, so early Troopers were something like 58", and later models were up to 60" or 61". You'd better research this factor more thoroughly, though, as I've only read it on Planet. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
