Mine is rebuilt with a cut crank - not by much though - and it's fine. I haven't been killing it either so who knows.

When rebuilding take note on the crank bolt issue and the headbolts need to be checked that they don't bottom out before pulling - a big reason why many rebuilds fail. ( FrankR has been drilling this for some time now )
