Hooray! It's working great now!

I pulled out the entire mechanism and lubricated everything.

I had to experiment with the resting positions of the control rods and the crank arm. If a 20-year-old wiper mechanism is asked to move too far from its original limits of travel, it can hang up, even if it is well lubricated.

All these fittings had a lot of resistance in them before lubrication . . .

Pretty ugly, but now that it's lubricated and back in place, it's working fine . . .
