Wheres a good place to find one (engine rebuild kit)thats not up the <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> in price and a good kit from a honest place online any one have a good experence latly. Sucks did a compression test,got 180psi on cylinder 1 witch is really good for 160,000 miles cylender 5 150psi below the 10% limit but on grand ol cylinder 3 a wapping 60psi the oil cap smelled like a lawn mower <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> so its seeping past the rings. Didnt even bother checking the drivers side since its a pain in the ass to get to the back ones.Realized i havent posted on here since i think december 1st <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Maybe, maybe not. Squirt a few teaspoons of engine oil through the spark plug hole and recheck. If the pressure remains the same, the problem could be valves, valve guides, cracked head and/or a blown head gasket. And, it's possible that it could be one or more of those in combination with ring wear.

#5 cylinder is a favorite place for a 3.0L head gasket to blow. I have seen suggestions that the 2 rear cylinders don't receive adequate coolant flow, but I'm not yet certain that's the reason.

Since factory parts are becoming expensive and sometimes scarce, I've been curious to see how cheaply a 3.0L can be rebuilt and still last. For a standard rebuild, I'd be tempted to try one of the auction site kits from a seller who has a good rating, because I suspect that there may be some reasonable value there if you shop carefully. As an example, I bought lash adjusters that normally sell for ~$12/ea for less than $5/ea and expected to get some cheap knockoff - but they were made in Japan and distributed by Sealed Power division of Federal Mogul. They look and perform like the original. I'm not suggesting that is the norm, but that some of the kits may be decent.

cyl. 5 is where mine blew

Hey frank, after i posted earlier i went out to the garage and pour alittle oil down the num 3 cylinder and sure enough it went from 60psi to 65psi and no oil on the plugs so the rules out the valve seal and no water in the oil so its looking like its going to be with the valves maybe a burnt up exhaust valve or seat. I suspected a burnt up exhaust valve since my hydro carbons were barly passing california smog bye 1 at both stages After checking the the primary and secondary ingnition systems they both passed so i'll do a leak down test this weekend to confirm it is indeed something with the valves or something else.

I think you meant it calls attention to the valves. Unless there's a hole in the piston, I'd suspect a burnt valve. It still could be a blown head gasket, though. Either way, it's time to pull the heads and see what's going on.

Yep I got 2 burnt up exhaust valves on the number 3 and 6 cylinders.
