Need a Spot
I need to replace my 12V motor and found a shop that has a used 6G72 long block from Japan that's from a sedan. I know I have to swap out the external components and brackets, should I also swap the fuel injectors?

Are there any issues doing this type of swap?

IIRC most sedan motors are transversely mounted. That also means the dipstick was on the wrong side.

I also believe the cams are for a different kind of torque curve than the montero setup but it should still work.

As for the rest, I'm sure there are probably other differences but I know others will be way more knowledgeable than I will on that info.

A sonata will work but a Diamante 3.0 12v SOHC has different cams and pistons...

Most any of the AA or AJ body Mopars (Chrysler LeBaron Convertible, Coupe, Sedan; Dodge Spirit; Plymouth Acclaim), as well as select Dynastys, New Yorkers, and Dusters, will have a 3.0 option: Same motor as the Monty/Raider 3.0, but with the exceptions noted by others (different cams, oil dipstick, etc.). The Mopar version of the motor came with power steering as standard, so a single belt wraps that with the rest. A/C was optional, so that has it's own belt, like the Montys.

It wouldn't surprise me if your oil pan was a straight swap to put the dipstick on the "proper" side, but with the space under the Monty hood, it shouldn't matter left or right.

Interesting tidbit: I'm under the impression that the 6G72 was conceived and designed as a FWD, right-side facing, right-hand drive motor. This would put the power steering pump on the right-hand side near the steering, and the A/C compressor near the front and the condenser.

When the same engine is turned to face forward, with left-hand drive, the power steering has to cross to the left side of the vehicle, while the A/C has to cross over to the right side.

HUMMER .25: No need to compensate.

Cool. There have been new members in the past who have posted up multiple threads when they didn't get a fast response. Sorry if I sounded snippy... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Obviously there are a lot of people on here that know about 50000 times what I do but I did put one of these "Japanese swappers" on my 95 3.5, every external bracket and component: not that bad. NOT KNOWING TO CHANGE VALVE GUIDE SEALS THAT HAVE BEEN STORED DRY FOR MORE THAN 1 YEAR: VERRRRRRY BADDDDDDDD. The job would have been easy before I nestled that mass of aluminum under the hood, too bad I didn't know then to also do the VLAs when I did the seals.... Just a thought.
