I am trying to figure out where the ele. hook up for the A/C compressor is. Look around the area of the driver side inner fender under the radiator overflow bottle and down near the brake line and upper control arm pivot. You'll find a single black wire with a square connector that plugs into the compressor switch pigtail to make the compressor clutch circuit. Frank

is it hot or a ground? I found one but its not hot or long enough to make it to the compresser. or should it be long? or does it turn on when the pressure switch is tripped when full of refridgerent so it doesent ruin the compresser?
many thanks loren

It's a hot lead that is switched on via a relay inside the ECU after the ECU gets the signal from the water temperature switch on top of the thermostat water box and maybe also a signal from the A/C refrigerant pressure. It's been a while since I looked at the diagram to be certain of the inputs, but I think I'm remembering it correctly.
There is a short lead that will be attached to the compressor which will reach the one coming from the fender area.

I pulled out the iac. and turned key on and off. it is sopposed to move in and out. all it does is twist about 1/4 turn. does that mean its dead? I can push it up and down about 1/4 inch but wont do it on its own.
many thanks loren

Download the fsm. There are detailed directions on how to check the iac/isc.

I did and it really only shows how to test the harness. and it says to test unit. leave plugged in and turn key. if it shakes its good. so at that point its good. but another place said it should move back and forth.... I dont know. it was really dirty in there. with the blown head gasket it got alot of milkshake oil all over. could it have clogged the passage for the iac? it was full of oil and water when I removed. very wet. not like dry carbon.
many thanks loren

would that also cause a low vacuum pressure? really have to rev motor to get enough vac. to engage the 4X4. but cant find leak. might just change all lines!!!!!!! to make sure. alot are oil saturated so I might be losing vac from that.

It's possible they didn't put it in the Gen II manual but the Gen I (89 manual) shows how to check it using a multimeter indicating what the ohm ratings should be between connector pins. I'll try and dig that up this evening when I'm home and post it for you.
