Has anyone checked out upgrading their alternator to one that puts out higher amps? This U.S. company called DC Power says they have brand new bolt on alt's for the 3vze ranging from 180($389), 250($489) or 320($529) max amp output alternators. they say you only need to upgrade your output wiring and your ground wire (i'm guessing to handle the increased amps) I know some of you on here have some heavy power needs so thought I'd ask if anyone has one of these alts and how it has performed.

ya I don't know how extensive I'm going to go with crawling mods on my new 95 but i do want to get it tricked up for camping. I figure something great for any backwoods or trail adventure would be to upgrade the amperage on the alt, add a second battery similar to what roger did and add a good power inverter with access at the rear of the vehicle. it looks like that mean green alternator is pretty good too, although dc power has one that puts out 533% more power (over stock) at highway rpms. they both offer a 1 year waranty. one way or the other this is going to be my next mod.

i bought mine from here: http://www.maniacelectricmotors.com/hiou120amp193.htmli havent installed it yet since i think i solved my issues... it's a re-wrapped oem style case so no other mods are needed except the upgraded wires.

ya here is a link http://www.dcpowerinc.com/alternators/toyota.html but the only products they have listed there are for '95+ stuff. I had to contact them to see if they had anything for the 3vze which they do, just not listed. they probably make something for 22r as well, but i did not ask about that.

The higher amperage figures makes me think about welding. Anybody know how to make one of these into a decent welder for less than the "off the shelf" systems like this one from Premier Power?

On board welder mounting it is gonna be uncharted territory, he has a jeep. I havent done it yet. if someone has done this post some pics of the mounting, especially if you have A/C!
