I'll agree that your problem sounds fuel-related -- I had similar symptoms with a failing fuel pump (although from your sig it looks like the pump was replaced relatively recently). Maybe you could try having someone spray some starter fluid into the throttle body while you crank the engine. If it fires on the starter fluid then it's definitely a fuel delivery problem, most likely the pump since when your problem occurs you can crank and crank without any attempt to light off.
