Need a Spot
I have a 1996 toyota tacoma that shakes when I am stopped at a light, I feel this shaking is excesive and is very annoying. I have had the toyota dealership check it and they said everything checked ok and "I should just live with it". When I bought the truck a year ago it had 80,000 miles on it,I had a motor flush, throttle cleaning, air filter replaced, new plugs and wires, motor mounts replaced, all with original toyota parts. None of these fixed the shaking problem. After reading your forum I am wondering if I should try removing the tps and clean it,I'm not sure where it is located. Would someone on the forum have a picture of where it is located on my truck? I also thought that maybe the minimum idle speed might be to low,but was told the aic is preset at the factory and can't be adjusted. I would greatly appreciate any other ideas as to how to solve this shaking problem. Thank you.

First of all, welcome to the 'Wire!

The NCTTORA guys have a nice FSM collection; do a download and start there. I had a link for the 3.4 sensor locations, but can't find it at the moment.

TPS- root of all evil, even in the old 22RE.

TPS issues are rare in my experience in the newer motors. They work a bit differently.

The idle is controlled by the ECU via the IAC. Sometimes the IAC can get gummed up with oil and junk from the PCV system. If it idles up normally on a cold start and then settles back down when its warm, and if the idle speed is pretty consistent, I'd look elsewhere though.

I have encountered a few problems with injectors though, and that might cause a rough idle. Pulling them and having them cleaned and balanced might not be a bad idea.

X2 on the IAC, it should be located under the throttle body if you decide to clean it. Sometimes a dirty MAF sensor will do that as well.
