cool!

If I can't find someone locally to help me out, maybe the planets will align sometime before mid july..

My issue right now is trusting a shop I've never been to with my truck, winch and everything else..

I just put my 8274 back on my Montero today. A little easier to install. I need a good power wire and ground wire. I also need to figure out how to mount the control box with the larger motor (brand new Warn 9.5xp motor) I have had sitting in a box for the past 3 years. I would also like to rebuild the brake mechanism and paint the winch. I guess I should have started my own post. Too late.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

You don't need a seperate ground wire, it grounds fine thru the winch body. I can make you a power wire out of that little stuff that I use, if you'd like. You coming down this weekend? I'm off Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. Guess I should've replied in your other thread. Too late...

I thought you needed a good sized negative wire bolted to the negative battery post.

I'm not going to Uwharrie, have a motor to build. And the statement about the ground wire was to Sparky on his 8274. They ground thru the body of the winch. No idea on other winches as they're all I've ever used.

Figured, I'd finish off this post, since it's been a while but I finally completed this project except for the extra wiring into the cab, I had enough hassle just getting someone to help fabricate the missing mount for the TJM, I should of had Larry's friend do it a while back.. I was fortunate enough to have the right person do it while I was down in Georgia the other day though anyway.

Here's how it turned out:

I got really lucky with how well this fit in here.. the bottom of the bumper has a lip on it that the winch mount fit inside of.. and the winch mount literally just barely touches the inside of the bumper (giving it extra strength)

Every bolt that went on is Grade 8...

All these pavement pictures of my truck make me sad.. but I'm going on a 3 day camping/offroad trip in Georgia next weekend and plan on putting this winch to good use. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

When I get bored one of these weekends, I'm relocating that control box, and running a set of wires into the cab for cab controls on the winch.

One more of the wiring, I went positive and negative right to the battery.

Thanks again to Larry for helping Liberate me with the battery..

(my rebuilt alternator is still holding up, too)

When you get around the in cab remote, check this article from the 4x4wire archives: http://www.4x4wire.com/tech/winch/remote/

What makes the NAPA Liberator battery special??? Cost???

FYI, here is a link to a wealth of battery info:

http://www.jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/index.htm

Personally, I am leaning toward the Optima Yellow-top as my deep-cycle battery for winch and light support.

It appears to have better deep-cycle reserve capacity as compated to others.

Thanks for all that information! I think I'll be ok with this battery.. Larry can probably fill you in on some details.. but all I know it's friggen huge, weighs a ton.. and powers my winch and everything on the truck without any problems.
