Yes, not to say it wont work but its a bit bigger trans that may not fit without a body lift. Mitsu lifted the body about an ich or so to fit this trans in the 94 and up DOHC's.
You'll also have to figure out the electrical circuit. The hold/normal/power modes. So the wire harnesses are different? I'm not sure about the electrical circuit. what are the hold/normal/power modes?

there's a button on the Gen2 94+ behind the shifter - different settings for when the tranny shifts gears. The Hold mode holds the tranny in 2nd from a stop - great for snow and ice.

My mechanic just completed swapping out the original tranny with a used tranny (both marked 7G on the bell housing) and rebuilt torque converter. Now I'm having new issues.
I have no problem going into any of the gears, but now it doesn't have any power when I take off from a dead stop, and climbing hills, but runs fine on the fwy past 70 MPH. It doesn't shift right from a dead stop and when I do get it moving the rpms jump to 5k before it shifts or I have to let go of the gas before it shifts.
It seems like it starts in the higher gear when I take off from a dead stop since I can pump the gas pedal, but engine rpms don't go up.
Anyone have any ideas on what this symptom could be? I don't want to take it back to the "backyard" mechanic who worked on it since he doesn't know much about automatic transmissions.

The tranny is in hold mode, where it starts in 2nd gear, upshifts early, and resists early downshifts, all of which will feel like a lack of power. The shade tree mech put an incompatible tranny in the truck, and you are screwed, since you didn't listen to the advice above and get the mech to rebuild the proper tranny.
You can either spend the bucks to get somebody to wire up a tranny mode switch to match the tranny, which will give you a hold mode, a standard mode, and a power mode shift pattern.
Not responsible for advice not taken...

I hate shady tree mechanics... that's why I do all my work in a garage <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
Yea, I would try to find the diagram for the shift mode switch and see if you can either make your own switch or just jump the wires to make it run in normal mode.
I would also probably burn that shop down if they tried that with me. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for your response.
I got the tranny from a local yard that specializes in Mitsubishis, so this was the yard's mistake. I am hoping they still have the truck that this came from so they can give me the switch or find me the right tranny. I'll be calling them tomorrow.
I downloaded the FSM, do you know if this switch is described in the FSM? I could probably wire it up myself, but need the pinouts from the connectors.
