I know that Sean (strawmyers) has rebuilt his starter and he used to have pictures for us, but I cannot find them.

There should be some way to hold the brushes/contacts back as you install the plate they are attached to. There should be somewhere to insert a piece of wire to keep them retracted until it is all back together. If not, get creative.
