ok so it has been overheated who knows how many times 225,000 miles thermostat is 3 days old has no coolant in it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> , missing like its running on 3 cylinders, sounds like it has a collapsed lifter, oil is overfull about 2 inches on dip stick and only cranks over if you mash the gas pedal to the floor and cycle the starter about five times but it will start

If that extra 2 inches in the oil pan is coolant you are in trouble! Personally I'd be looking for a replacement engine and wouldn't think about messing with that one.
I'd find the junkyard engine I wanted and get it home before even starting with the swap. Around here junkyard engines come with all attachments already on them. So I'd have extra stuff after the swap.
I am a fan of rebuilding my own engines, but that one sounds like too much junk for me to even start rebuilding it. Might be the block is ruint, not just the head.
