Getting the Wheeling Fever
My girlfriend was driving the sport and it stopped running. we had it towed to my friends shop. He lets me do work on my car when he has room. All the mech's there told me to junk it cuz its not worth fixing, and that it has a interfearance motor so the head was toast! So with my head hung low i went home and looked on our site.. WoooHooo!! they were wrong!!

I ordered the parts and waited for them to arrive. 3 days later the parts came. I called my friend and asked if he had room for me. I get there and they r telling me its a waste of time and $$. I told them it will work..One mech says " 100 bucks it wont work!!" another one says " 12 pack!" 3 hrs later its time to fire it up!! they all step back!! starts on first turn!! got my Money.n Beer..

you won because you have a dohc, if it had been a sohc they would have, good job, you should have up it and said only a $100 bucks, then said a half a 24 case, not much of betting men are you. I hope you went ahead and did in tensioners and a new water pump when you had it apart.

snowboardvdr,
I got the same B.S. from everyone when I did my chain and water pump. They all said to junk my Sporty. I was amazed at how stupid people are, and how easy it is to call somebody elses problems a total loss. I got mine fixed and she's just at 53,000 miles now. Engine purrs like a kitten.
Bye the way, I've seen about six Sportages on craigs list and sale lots up here in Fairbanks Alaska within the last few months. I'm thinking about another one if the wife will go for it.

My friend and i happen to b at a kia dealership. He asked one of the mech's to see the sporty manual. It does say it is an interferance motor. There mech says i got lucky cuz my gf was comming to a stop and had the clutch in. So lucky? dont know, just glad sporty works. As for the rear door. it seems like the power lock is not working. I havent tried to fix the drivers window yet. it was working great. any ideas?

Body Damage is Cool
The manual is probably wrong. I have always heard from owners that the DOHC engine is non-interference. I have also broken a timing belt myself and had no engine damage. That's probably just a mistake in the manual or something.

I would pull off the panel pull and clean the connectors, as you have it off pull and clean all ot them.
