Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok got a smittybilt xrc8 new in box this morning off craigslist for $279 and started shopping for bumpers, searched and searched, found the ARB AU site had the part number, googled that and found quite a few for sale in the U.S. but they say 81-88?????? Shouldn't it say 87-91? I have an 89, will this work?

http://www.acmejeepparts.com/products/72...=googlemerchant

or just google "arb 3434010"

The frame rail spacing is different. It can be made to work. Somewhere on the board there is a write up about it. I think the Gen 2 arb will work on the 89-91 v6 but I am not sure. I think Justice just put one on his Gen 1

Frame rail spacing different from 88 to 89? Sales ad had a pic of a gen1 vehicle but says 81-88. gen1 is 82-91 so that's why I'm confused.

I believe the diff is between the v6 and the 4 cyl models. The arb that you see for sale fits the 4 cyl models. They have a narrower frame width in the front for some reason. There is a write up for the bumper in question and then you can look up Justice's mounting on his new Gen 1 using a Gen 2 arb i think

The pic is the SWB Gen 1. The v6's and the LWB have a wider frame rail spacing. You can shim it up with some washers or by making a spacer.

Ok, thanks guys, didn't realize there was a difference between the 4 cylinder and V6 frames.

Body Damage is Cool
actually the V6 is wider than the 4 cyl. it would be difficult to shim a 'narrow' 4 cyl unit to fit a V6

I hate to do this...no I don't. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

There are actually only a few differences between the front frame sections on the 4-cyl and V6 frames relative to the mounting of a bumper. The outside to outside measurement on both frames is 2.55 feet. The inside to inside measurements are 2.15 (4-cyl) and 2.0 feet (V6), respectively. The difference in the inside measurements is due to the steel used for the bumper mount.

The 4-cyl bumper mount is visually taller than the 6-cyl piece; however, this is deceptive when you do not have the two types to compare. The 4-cyl piece extends all the way to the inside bumper height and has a welded nut I presume to be for the factory winch fairlead mount atop the bumper. The 6-cyl piece uses a box with a welded nut to achieve the inside bumper elevation and has a wider section that extends back on the frame horn, thus making the inside winch area more rectangular. In the end, the only real difference is the inside dimension. See photos below:

OK. I get that there is a difference between the 4 cyl frame and the 6 cly frame. But ARB leaves out the 89 and 90 year models. Why? So what I think I hear is the ARB bumpers for 91 thru like 97 will work on a 90 LWB 6 cyl? Huh? With some help from spacers or a grinder? Huh?
