Am I doing something wrong? I did five turns (clockwise laying on my back) and it only raises a 1/2 inch. Or do I suck at getting a accurate measurement? I'm measuring the front bumper to the ground.

After I get the height I want and check the distance between the bump stops and the control arm to make sure there is some room, do I just tighten the holder nuts on the top of the bolt?

Five turns and with the thread pitch of the bolt makes 1/2" sound reasonable to me. Yes, when you get it where you want it, tighten the second nut to lock it.

You know you'll need an alignment, right? And when you get it done, make sure the shop knows they'll need to add shims. Don't let them short-sheet you.

I measure from the ground to the underside lip of the fender right at the center of the front hub(I was doing this today). Make sure to drive it around a little before tightening the lock nuts, as it may settle some after your adjustment and you'll have to fine tune it.

And, yes, it takes a lot of turns to make a big difference.

Also, the suspension tends to settle up when you crank the t-bars. Crank them and drive it around for a day. Then measure again. 5 turns will probably net you more than 1/2" in the end.

I always set my own camber to zero. You can collect the shims from the junk yard or make your own with some steel from Lowes, a hacksaw and a decent round file. Dead easy.

To set the camber I cut 2 pieces of square tube exactly the same length and tape them, end on, to my level so the other end of the tubes rest against the rim top and bottom. Then you can use the level to set the camber to zero I just get the shop to set the toe.

Yeah, I have an appointment to get one tomorrow, I wanted to get one anyway since I got new shoes. I already went to get one once but they said it was not alignable cause of the upper ball joints and the shaft had to much play. (so they say) So I replaced them. most of the shims where really rusty so I left them out so they have to put new ones in. Is there a reasonable way to check to make sure they adjust camber/caster well? I always hear of some shops "do toe and let it go" obviously check for shims but.... You know? Other then buy more tools like the manual shows.

Caster is not adjustable on these trucks.

Camber is checked and adjusted just like the MadScientist described above. It's also kind of obvious when looking dead on at the front of one of the wheels whether it's leaning in or out when way out of adjustment, as it sounds like yours must be about now.

Thanks guys, I lost count on the turns but I ended up with about an inch of clean thread coming out the top of both sides, got about an inch lift in the front. I drove it around the hood zig zag'n and breaking, then locked the nuts. Do you think that's enough? You say it settles up, if I get it aligned in the morning and it's not a far drive should I check the camber again in a day or so or do you think it will be good?

Probably be OK, but it might settle a bit more over then next few days. However, if it track OK and the camber looks good (as JBFP said; stand in front of your truck and check the front tire angle against the the back tire) I'd stop worrying about it.

No worries, I just want to make sure I'm not buying tires any time soon.
Thanks

Any one ever re index there tbars. My front end has lost about 1in of lift with the arb bumper and winch. I would just wind them up more but I'm maxed out, so that will not work.

Edit Found my answer
