Denso is good. Adjust yours first according to Rogers procedure. If it fails that, then replace it.
Easy enough to test it on the truck.

alright boys, I took my throttle body off the truck and I have my multimeter and feeler gauges, I' gonna sit in front of the computer and test and adjust everything. Bummber thing is, the $35 TPS is no longer existent. I clicked on it to buy it and its gone, and going back, it doesn't exist. I will test mine and get back to you. thanks again for all the help. If not for you guys there would be:

Craigslist: '85 4Runner for Parts: best offer

I adjusted the TPS, and it seemed like it barely passed? but when I adjusted the throttle-plate stop screw to proper adjustment, and put the throttle body back on, the truck did not want to idle at all!! and when I shorted out the timing plug, there was no difference in idle, so I am going to replace the TPS.

But on another note, I did move the timing to about 12 degress and took it for a cruise around the blcok (although it wouldn't idle) and it really did run GREAT! Now i just need it to do it properly!

The cheapest I found on the net was $75 and wouldn't be here til next week. So I ordered a Borg Warner one and it'll be in tom, but I"m embarrassed to say what I paid, my patience is long gone, so whatever. Tom I will install the new 2 stage thermostat I'm picking up at Toyota at 8am and the new TPS. Well see from there. Again thanks alot for the help guys, lets sit back and see what happens with the problem machine from hell!

[color:"red"] Did you adjust the TPS before the throttle plate screw adjustment, or, after? Should be done after. [/color]

yes toyrunner, i now hava phd in 22rec, and i really did test it according to the link that you gave me, I will install the TPS tomorrow, and the thermostat.

I really did take mu throttle body off and run the tests

I adjusted my throttle screws BEFORE i tested it!

I will install them tomorrow, and I will owe you big time! I dont mean to jump the gum, but if its not the TPS, then its the CPU?

I know this may be a dumb Q, but will I have to adjust the new TPS to spec like i did 2day, or is it bolt on and rock?

No plug and play
Pull the throttle body, install, adjust, re-install. Start truck, check timing jumpered-re-time if necessary, pull jumper and see if engine idle goes up. It should. Adjust RPM to @900. With the cam, I find it works better at this RPM. Smoother idle. At 750, it is a bit lumpy.
Enjoy
Education is good, especially when you can stop paying for this work and do it yourself and help others!

I have a friend coming over this a.m. to readjust/replace his TPS. I checked it yesterday and it was above spec at IDL and would "float" all over.
I suspect it is gummed up and will attempt to clean it. I have a few good spares just in case.
Saturday fun, wheeling tomorrow!

SHE RUNS LIKE A WET DREAM BOYS! Thanks so much for your help! I now hava solid rig that will last me even more years! I'm so happy. But now I have to stick with toyotas, cause I know so much about them now.

Thanks again, but this isn't the last you'll see of me, I'll have a new thread up next week on fixing my rear window, and possible retrofit of rear disk brakes?

I'll try to get a picture of the White Lion up here tomorrow. Time to go enjoy the beautiful day

details man, details.
so what all did you end up doing.
what do you think finally fixed it.
I find it hard to believe that a bad tps would make your exhaust glow.

we went from timing gear cam...
oh how is the new cam now?

to connectors, re setting the valves, hair loss....
