I was looking at the pic of the Montero being jumped and was curious if anyone knows whos rig that is, and what was done to the suspension to make the owner confident enough to do that? Frankly, my suspension with kyB shocks on it feels fragile, I would be afraid to jump mine like that. Except for the kybs and both stops cut in half, my shyte is stock, is my suspension fragile or am I just being paranoid? I don?t have the same confidence in its indestructibility as I did in my Landcrusier. I was trying to climb something the other day and to do so required a bit of air so, this being my daily driver caution got the best of me... opinions?

thanks.

Your montero is much tougher than the land cruiser, they take jumps fine even stock. Don't worry about it, the montero was built for it and then they added things to make regular road driving people happy not the other way around.

I had an fj55, and compared to the rear axle on that, my monty rear axle looks like a bank vault door compared to a hollow core luan door.

Was the Montero in question a white Gen 2.5, red Gen 1 shorty or a gold Gen 1 shorty?

Russell if it was the white one.
Kris if it was the red one.
Les if it was the gold one.

I don't know of anybody else that has pics up of big air.

Yea the montys can take a lot of abuse.....just watch the landings though because even a montero can get tweaked if you go too big. <cough> Russell A. <cough> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Although Russell tweaked his rig a little on one of his Pismo jumps, he also has never stopped wheeling it. He even rolled it and kept wheeling....the sunroof still worked after his roll over. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/mrt.gif" alt="" />

You didn't view the video?

It was a 2 door gen II someone aired out and dropped from about 8' straight down pretty much onto water (luckily?) and not on a decline/slope. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

Getting the Wheeling Fever
i've seen a video of a red raider jumping at the oceano dunes, even though the cars can take the hits it would just feel wrong jumping it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

I think he's asking about the picture that is beside the "Mitsubishi 4x4 & SUV Tech" heading when you are on the "Main Index" of the whole forum. I know I wondered about that photo too. In that case it is a white two door with a snorkel, that's about all I can tell.

I will second (third, fourth?) the idea that the Monty's can take a lot. I don't have nearly the experience with them that some of these guys do, but what I have challenged so far leads me to a lot of confidence. Of course this video mentioned has intrigued me. I would love to see it if someone can point me in the right direction...

First it is not white. It is silver it just looks white in the photo. The suspension was stock. The driver/owner is DougB. He is still on here but not very active.
