porting out poop does not sound interesting at all. weekend of the 17th or 24th, I'm in for either but more than a days notice would be good. Deer valley & slick rock sounds good. What are you thinking? camp out Friday, get an early start Saturday, camp Sunday and Strawberry on Sunday? or just a Saturday run?

Weekend of the 24th would be great.
Warning, crappy rant ahead!
Packing poo, just no. Too bad it is not just California. Running into more areas that require port-a-pots, or pack it out. I would not want to be the person that has to dump the trash cans at the trailheads that require this. All this because some people are too stupid to crap in a hole. I do understand the conditions around Buck Island Lake are bad, Can't dig a hole in granite. /rant mode off

Russell are you talking about running Corral Hollow Friday night? Excerpts from the CA Jeeper Website description... The trail is about 13 miles long and takes about 2 hours to run. There are no major obstacles and the trail is not difficult. This trail is a great choice for the first timers or if you want to take the wifeÆs SUV somewhere without tearing up the rocker panels. That last sentence is what I'm not too interested in. I don't mind doing that for the fun of it after having dinner... That said, I wonder how long the pizza place is open at Bear Valley? The one where we ate dinner after replacing the rear end on my Blue Montero. Carlos, you remember that one right?

Do we have a firm date yet? I'm good for the 17th or 31st but it looks like I may not be available on the 24th

The reason is in the post, theres a chance of getting the Bear Trap Cabin to spend the night in or if its taken theres a great area to camp in right from it.That was the plan on the run we tried to make last month.Check out the Wells guide trail 27

Russel, just remember there are some trees along the Corral Hollow which are eager to take your rear right quarter panel window in the night
Guys, I am afraid that around the Bear Valley and the Deer Valley every squirrel already is familiar with your trucks. Why not try something else ? There are relatively close trails to Eagle Lakes (crossing the Fordyce trail) and Signal Peak along freeway 80. There are more remote but gorgeous trails (and some are moderate-to-difficult) in the Gold Lake area to the north of Truckee.
Unfortunately, I am out till the end of August.
My only wheeling till then will be Wheeler Ridge in Bishop area in 24th July weekend. If anybody wants to go there let me know.

2) MUST bring your own porta potty. This is mandatory and you can no longer leave #2 anywhere near the trail. Personally I'm not too keen on porting out poop especially on a trail as rough as the 'con. Sorry, Ray. This is a coming reality. Leaving human waste is becoming a bigger issue by the day. The operative phrase is: Tread Lightly and Pack it out, pack ALL of it out. The Rubicon is the focal point in a effort to save access. If human waste disposal is not solved in a manner that protects health of the watershed, drastic measures will be taken. The Friends of the Rubicon and Rubicon Trail Foundation have worked long and hard to achieve workable solutions. They want the trail open. The white flower campaign is the latest attempt to get a handle of a real problem that needs a solution. BTW, there are solutions to making the human waste "dumpster safe". I have tried them; actually, I use them.
