so, after doing research on the forum here for a couple of days, i ordered the dynomax superturbo (part #17747), and a monza tip (part #). i went to get it installed at the local body shop, and they told me that i had a 2.5" exhaust (the above-listed parts are 2.25"). they seemed like they didn't have a clue what to do (and neither did i - this was the first time i have gotten a new muffler installed on a car) so i took it to the best place in my area, thinking that maybe the other shop had a bunch of idiots working there. i just got back, and the new shop confirmed that it was 2.5" in diameter, not the 2.25" that most other people on the forum have had. i don't think it was anything custom, either, because the muffler had 'toyota' written on it and the tech who installed the new stuff showed me how it was 2.5" all the way from the exhaust manifold to the rear. this shop didn't have the superturbo model with 2.5" inlet/outlets, so they stuck the one i brought on a machine that expanded all of the connections out to 2.5". it may be a *little* more restrictive than if had waited and gotten the bigger one, but i am not worried about it. as it is, it sounds very nice, no drone, and looks good to boot. now i just need to get my amsoin air filter and deckplate mod done : ) hopefully this helps anyone who is inclined to install *any* aftermarket muffler to have the size of their exhaust checked before they just go buy something, in order to buy the correct sizes.
