Cool, glad you've got that figured out.

On the excavation job, take a good look at the seam between the exterior wall and the footing to see if that's all sealed up before tossing the drain in there. Typar over the gravel to keep the fines from clogging the pipes; should be all set.

Couple good things to lay your eyes on:

The exterior walls around this particular basement are monolithic. The interior slab is floating and unreinforced. One half of the garage floor is the basement roof.

Figuring on at least a 10-11 foot trench alongside the basement wall, we're going to use 3/4" or 1" crushed, clean gravel to backfill over the perforated pipe, filter fabric to separate the gravel pack from the soil backfill, and compact. In addition, we'll be using Mira-drain, a bumpy plastic-backed filter against the wall, to provide drainage and aeration.

I was just thinking too; the other thing your friend should consider is if the basement ventilation is adequate. If a house doesn't breathe, the living space isn't healthy. That's a big deal up here is indoor air quality.

Last, when's the last time she's had a radon test? Some places offer home test kits for free.

Wrong kind of bedrock for radon, metasedimentary rather than igneous. Secondly, I scoffed at the non-ventilation the space has. There is a dropped ceiling and ventilation will be installed during the reconstruction phase. All the wall board and ceiling materials will be removed shortly after the water has somewhere to go.

Sounds like a plan is coming together.
