So, my job finally came through and I am in upstate New York!!
AND my tranny tooks a crap Oh well I knew it had been going for a while, it's just bad timing. The worst part.... I just relocated and don't have a place to work on it! So I bit the bullet (more like morter round) and I am paying a shop to put in a new one
Man is it different from SoCal.
Any of you guys from around the area have any good tips???

Sorry to hear about both your tranny and where you must live! Sarasota Springs is a lovely place to visit...But pity the poor person that must live there year after year. Three or four summers was enough for me. When you get a chance put in for a transfer back to God's country.. Big JIm

What were you doin up here for the summer BJ?
It sure is pretty compaired to brown and black SoCal. Then again, anything fun to do cost a pretty penny...
John, You pointed them out before... Their NY section is a little lacking... My guys at work have a few pointers, but it looks like the jeep has a higher likely hood of rusting than wheeling...

There are a number of opportunities on private lands where access is conditioned by being a member of an organization. I understand the Northeast Association has a couple of deals worked out for private land access.

North above Schroon Lake is a little place named North Hudson. Back in 57, 58, and 59 I had a job up there in the summer wrestling alligators. There was a reptile garden up there called New York Serpentarium. I gave reptile lectures and handling of various reptiles. Early in 60 the state bought the place and I suppose they built the interstate right over the top of it. Watch out for them summer bugs.. a good flight of skeeters have been known to carry small statured folks right off. Big JIm

I doubt a fly swatter would work on them biguns up there.. But there is a new type repellant that does work. I can't think of the name right now but I betcha it is all over the place up there. It isn't the deet that is in most repellants. Without the bugs that is really an interesting place to be in the summer. I've seen it snow up there July 4th. Just flakes but snow never the less. Of course I was a single guy at the time. I learned to water ski on the Schroon Lake. Ya had to ski cause the water was too cold to fall into.
