A guy that I work with is going to do this this weekend. The video was from last year's race. Rather crazy! Rules are simple. Must have been a child's toy, must have plastic wheels and you have to wear a helmet. Held rain or shine. Used a 80 series Land Cruiser to film part of the downhill portion of the two heats! Once the page comes up, click on "The Reason", beware dial up people, this won't load fast! Enjoy

That's awesome!!

The video editing skills are sweet, but that race looks like fun...

That just rocks. Communities need to have a little more fun-time like that.

Actually I think it started out as a neighborhood thing after the soap box derby was for kids and the grown ups wanted to do something. This is another link to the '08 race. http://vimeo.com/1969266
I believe the guy that does the video editing is Jeffrey Butler and he does a heck of a job too.
I think they are getting smarter with looking for something that has four wheels instead of two or three.
I was eyeing my granddaughter's John Deere 4 wheeler with plastic wheels ( at her birthday party was today) and talking to my wife about it.....she said "no way and get that idea out of your head" in the same breath. I think she realizes what I already know, I don't heal as fast as I used to! I think it would be cool to do this at least once, maybe twice if I made it the first time without crashing! I'll find out from the guy at work on Tuesday how it was on Memorial Day and if he took the Barbie Jeep down, like he said he was.

Body Damage is Cool
I've got a motorcycle forum I'm on ready to copy this idea and have a little fun.

In full race leathers, of course.

Hey, I wanna do that in a Big Green Machine, one of those rear wheel steering big wheels. I salvaged one from a pile of junk left over from a rental ejection and gave it to my kids. Greatest spin out machine ever. Wide rear track, long wheel base, twin lever steering with a short stroke...

The Green Machine would be nuts at those speeds.

Surprised nobody used a Kettcar... The older ones had hard plastic tires.

Kettler website

Looks like the new stuff has rubberized tires which would disqualify you...

I have 2 older ones that lasted through my 2 girls and are dying a slow painful death at the hands of my 2 boys....

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...
