I'm looking at a diagram for the vacuum hoses, and it's got the following "parts" listed in the diagram:
feedback solenoid valve slowcut solenoid valve secondary air control solenoid valve throttle opener control solenoid valve purge control valve vacuum regulator valve
Are you freaking kidding me?! If I get these hoses hooked up correctly, it'll be the 8th wonder of the world. Sure would be nice if there was a single page that identified all these freaking parts...

Got all my ref docs together, to include a vacuum hose diagram, exploded views of the stock carb, and full size pics that I took of where the hoses went before I removed the stock carb. Checked and rechecked, still won't idle under 2500 rpms. And when I had the air cleaner off, I was revving the motor and looking down the carb, and the secondaries still weren't opening. Plus, that fast idle cam lever didn't appear to be working properly on the replacement carb either. So I've come to the conclusion that the replacement carb is in worse shape than the one I have on there now, so I'm going to return it and get a refund. I found a source for a new Weber 32/36 DFEV kit for $290 plus shipping. This link takes you to the home page, then do a search for a Weber conversion kit for a Mitsu 2.6: http://www.carburetion.com/after.htmAny of you kind folks out there that are running a Weber 32/36, PLEASE feel free to chime in with some helpful hints! I'm a true "plug and play" type of person, so if I order a Weber kit, and it's not "plug and play" (i.e. will require jetting or whatever), I need to know in advance. That'll save me the aggravation of removing the stock carb AGAIN, scraping off the gasket material AGAIN, and screwing around with all the hoses and plugs AGAIN...

Here's a direct link to a conversion kit I'm thinking of getting: http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/product_p/wk611.htmTo add another variable to this whole equation, I'm pretty sure I could get the EFI side of the SQ turbo system for less than what this Weber conversion kit costs. Not including the exhaust side, how easy/difficult is it to convert from carb to EFI on these things? When I was fiddling around with swapping the carbs, I noticed all these frickin' hoses on the intake side. Would most of those hoses be gone with EFI, or still hooked up on the EFI intake and TB, or some combo of the two? I'm sure the swap from carb to EFI is no where near as easy as replacing the stock Mikuni with a new Weber, but if I could get the EFI setup for what this new Weber kit costs, it might be an option worth pursuing...

I've decided to get the Weber 32/36 DFEV carb kit, ordered one for $295, which includes S&H. I'm hoping to have it in time to install it over the 4th of July weekend. The replacement Mikuni carb purchase was a nightmare, not something I would recommend (QualityAutoParts.com).
When you read the fine print in their "warranty", it varies by the type of part you buy. On carbs, the only thing their warranty covers is that the carb can be rebuilt, not that it's fully operational. I went round and round with their customer service people, telling them that had I known that's all their warranty covered, I would've gotten my carb rebuilt. Their initial offer was a $50 credit towards getting my replacement carb rebuilt, and when I asked them where was I supposed to get it rebuilt, they told me any Mitsubishi dealer, lol! So after yelling at them some more, they said they'll email me a return authorization, and to ship it back to the seller (a towing and "auto parts" place in WA!), and they'll either give me a full refund, or charge me a 25% restocking fee and refund the rest. So I yelled some more, and it looks like I'm getting a full refund now.
So in my attempts to save about $100, I ended up going thru this nightmare, not something I would recommend. This Weber kit should be a direct bolt-on, with a new carb, new air filter, gaskets, etc. And since I already have "experience" swapping the stock carb, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this Weber kit will be fairly easy. The fuel, water hose, and linkage connections should be obvious, I just hope the instructions are pretty clear on what to do with all those vacuum lines and rubber caps!

Like Eddy said, it sounds like your secondary isn't working. I think if you get the rebuild and they did a decent job and got the secondary right, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Until I got mine fixed I thought it was the biggest dog since my friends diesel VW Vanagon.

I think I got ripped off big time in buying that replacement Mikuni. They told me their carbs are bench-tested and guaranteed to work, so that's why I went ahead and bought it. Well, the only thing their warranty covers is that the carb can be rebuilt, not that it works. I was going to call them out on their so-called "bench testing", and ask so how many psi did they put thru the hand pump to make sure the secondaries worked? But I had my mind made up that I was going to return it and not bother with trying to fix my Mikuni.
One thing I didn't think about though regarding the Weber kit. I'm in VA right now, but my home of record is back in CA. I have a funny feeling that Weber conversion will NOT be legal back in CA? The one shop that sells turbo kits for carbed Montys (TEP?) says on their website that their Weber kits are not street legal in CA.

Correct, weber is not legal and can't be made legal in Kali.
Turbo conversion can be made legal.

Correct, weber is not legal and can't be made legal in Kali. Turbo conversion can be made legal. So that would be the complete turbo conversion, with the EFI side of the house as well, right? I have no doubt an EFI would be able to pass emissions in CA better than a Weber carb kit, but I'm starting out simple then heading down the EFI road. I need it to run right as my daily driver, so I'm hoping installing that Weber kit will give me back some 2-barrel performance. A female friend of mine drove it, and she's nicknamed it "the death trap", because the acceleration is so slow, and takes so long to get up to highway speeds, make lane changes, etc. I'm hoping that the Weber will make it run like her daughter's Suzuki Sidekick, which has a 1.6 16v EFI 5-speed. We'll see...

Hey Brooksie, are y'all Navy? That'd be my guess FE. Only reason IMHO for a cali guy to be in Norfolk. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
