Question, the 97 MS used a 9" rear, right? I did that swap last year. I have the small front diff right now, but I can get the 8" front from Curt I bet (stock 89 v6). is the that 8" a HP or LP? My rig could really use some help turning my 34's.

89 V6 is an 8" LP. You will need MB241981 gears and some modifications.
But if you replace it to an 8" HP then you will need only the gears. 7.25" HP and 8" HP front diffs are interchangeable with no mods.
And in the case of a HP front diff you can keep CAD (central axle disconnect).

Body Damage is Cool
So Tribolas, I'm away from my truck for a month, working off of a cell phone to be here, and can't pull up the tech books on my Sidekick phone. I'm running 35's on my 87 Raider, and would love to run some steeper gears. The front end is stock 87 Raider, the rear is an 98 Montero Sport air locker. What would I need to step up to those gears if you don't mind? Thanks

If I'm reading everything correctly, you'll want the front from a GenII, which will be the high pinion 8" unit. The GenI V6 is the low pinion 8". I think I have that right...

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

All GenI fronts are LP.
GenI V6 3.0 fronts are 8" LP and all the other GenI fronts are 7.25" LP.
MB241981 are the 5.285 gears for the 8" LP front and
MB527152 are the 5.285 gears for the 7.25 LP front.

High pinion appears on GenII and after.
