The main difference between the 9" and 9.5" rear diffs is in the drive shaft diameter. This is where you must focus for reliability issues.
The difference between 5.29 and 4.90 ratio is 8%.
To get an idea , if you have 5,29 and 31" tires changing to 4.90 ratio you must go with 29" tires to get the same results.
